Here is what I call a template. I use templates for my citations of sources.
This is for the 1850 Federal population census: family entry; p , lines , [city], County, [state] Population of Census; (National Archives Microfilm Publication M432, roll ); Seventh Census of the United States, 1850; Records of the Bureau of the Census, Record Group 29; National Archives-Washington, D.C. Digital images, Ancestry.com, http://www.ancestry.com: date. It is a basic source template for the 1850 census that has been digitized by Ancestry. Many of my citations are to NARA microfilm which was used before Ancestry et al digitized the records. The basic template is what I want to copy to a new project. I do not want to copy source details, they vary with each person. I literally fill in the blanks with the specific information on each family. I must have 50 or more templates. I started doing this when Visual Roots went out of business. So how long ago was that? It was long before Legacy was doing their version of source citation.
