Well, getting rid of the special "media" file and storing all the photos in the 
same folder as the web pages seems to have worked... at least in Google Chrome 
I can see the event photos on the webpages. In Internet Explorer, I cannot. I 
can live with that for now.

 I've used it in work and at home many times for similar
 uses.  It has a fairly complex user interface, so I
 recommend practicing on a few file copies in another
 location.
