I track DNA participants in my Legacy database. What I have found useful is to create master sources for each testing company like: "Ancestry DNA Participant"; "FTDNA Participant"; "SMGF Participant"; etc. Then I cite the appropriate DNA master source for each individual that has been tested. Once all participants have the DNA master sources linked, then I use "Show List" for those master sources and set Tag1. Next I set Tag2 for all descendants of a given ancestor. Finally, I search for everyone that has Tag1 and Tag2. Those are the descendants that share DNA with the common ancestor.
If I want to show a chart of how all the DNA participants are descended from the common ancestor, I use Tag1 to build a Focus Group consisting of every participant and his ancestry. Then use the Search>Find>Miscellaneous>Focus Group to find all the ancestors of all the participants. Tag3 the results. Now those with Tag2 and Tag3 are the lines you want for the chart of DNA descendants. I have a match with a seventh cousin once removed through a most recent common ancestor(MRCA), a sixth great-grandfather. I think that I would like to set up a customized event/fact to document this and then share this event/fact with each of the ancestors in the line. Has anyone set up a customized event/fact to do this? The role for the two individuals who provided the samples would be "donor" and the sixth great-grandfather would be "MRCA". The people in between these two also needs a role and of course there needs to be some sentence structure work. Any good ideas would be appreciated.
