This is a good example of why it isn't always a good idea to use the
Also Known As field for mis-spellings & variant spellings instead of or
as well as for actual AKAs.

One of my family names is Bloor, which is open to many variations of
spellings, but I use the "correct" version as the surname for each
person and record the variations wherever they occur. For example, for
a Census Event the Description might include "John Blewer; head of
household; ...". "John Blewer" is not a name he was also known as, but
merely the enumerator's transcription of the name Bloor as he heard it
spoken.

On the other hand, I have several people in my file who bore and used
one name for a number of years, and then for various reasons adopted and
used a different name. This is a genuine AKA and is recorded as such.
I have yet to come across anyone with more than one AKA, which is not to
say it cannot happen.

There are also nicknames and abbreviations by which people might be more
commonly know, especially in more informal circumstances, and this is
where Quoted Given Names comes in. I have one relative who forenames
are entered as Horatio John "Peter" and Peter is the name used in all
narratives because his mother was the only person who ever called him
Horatio!
