You should back up the Family File (File > Backup File) rather than
export to gedcom if you're planning on using it for backup. A gedcom
will lose shared events, SourceWriter sources and your history list,
and when you import the file back into Legacy, all the dates modified
and added will be reset to the date you imported the gedcom.

Gedcoms should only be used to share your Family File between other
genealogy programs or website requiring gedcoms or to open in earlier
versions of Legacy.

Our Knowledge Base seems to be down right now, but the correct way of
moving your data to another computer is to back up the Family File and
Media files (File > Backup File) and then restore the backup of the
Family File on the other computer. Media files need to be extracted
using the compression program on your computer - right click on the
file and select "Extract all".

There's an article in our Knowledge Base (when it's back up again) -
just search on "Moving" and it'll find the article for you. On our
website www.LegacyFamilyTree.com, go to Help Center > Tips or
Troubleshooting Help to access the Knowledge Base. You can also get it
through the Legacy Home tab in Legacy by clicking on the appropriate
links in the Support section.

Sincerely,
Sherry
