Have to admit I've had similar concerns. If I identify the death place for my 4th GGFather (Hampton, Kings, New Brunswick, Canada) I must first turn off the county (Kings) to use the Geo Location Database. If I use the actual location identification of the time period (1812), at least New Brunswick exists, yet Canada has not been formed. However, if I use the correct period location names, the Geo Location Database provides no location with British North America as the 'County'. With the territories and county boundary changes, the difference between the US County Verifier and the Geo Location Database is magnified. It is unfortunate there is no translation link between the two functions. Denise Moss-Fritch ----- Original Message -----

British North America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia this might help From: W. Bruce Matson Sent: Tuesday, December 23, 2014 9:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [LegacyUG] Data Entry..... Hello, Is there a more “correct” way of entering data for a person living during American Colonial times? For example, a person living in York, Maine in 1661 wouldn’t technically be correct. Would it be better to enter, York, York County (even though the County probably didn’t exist then), Maine, British Colonial/ North America? Certainly, the USA hadn’t been formed that early. .Any suggestions how others of you might deal with this. Thanks for any advice/input.
