RTF supports inclusion of JPEG, Portable Network Graphics (PNG), Enhanced Metafile (EMF), Windows Metafile (WMF), Apple PICT, Windows Device-dependent bitmap, Windows Device Independent bitmap and OS/2 Metafile picture types in hexadecimal (the default) or binary format in a RTF file. Not all of these picture types are supported in all RTF readers. When a RTF document is opened in software that does not support the picture type of an inserted picture, such picture is not displayed at all.

RTF writers usually convert inserted pictures from an unsupported picture type (e.g. BMP, TIFF, GIF, etc.) to one of the supported picture types (PNG, WMF) or they do not include pictures at all.

Unfortunately, Legacy does not allow you to write your document into Word, which does support text and images. Once it is in Word, you can easilly edit your document and then convert your document to PDF format in a couple of ways.

When I use Calendar to create the Birthday and Anniversary calendar, it is only created in bitmap (in the free version) or in PDF in the paid version. It does not include the information I need (maiden and married names of females) so I need to edit manually each entry. Luckily, I do have the full version of Adobe Acrobat and can make the changes to the PDF, but it would be so much easier if I could create the calendar in RTF or any text format so I can edit it in Word. Better yet, if I could include the information directly from Legacy itself, I wouldn't need to look up each person and make the corrections individually.

But we work with the limitations we have.

That depends on what word processor you are using - some of them provide an output to pdf.

Alternatively you can install Bullzip pdf printer from http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php

Then you can print to that printer and it will generate a pdf (It asks for a File name in the print process).

Thank you Alan.  Will I then be able to put it back into the PDF format, and have all the changes made? Also to have all the photos show, or do I have to do all of that manually?  I have found a few typos, etc.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Making Changes to a Descendant Report

Can someone tell me how to get a Descendant Report into a format that I can make changes to it?  For example:  I see single lines that stand by themselves and I want to push another line down with it, or I see a line that needs to have a return after it.  I have 680 pages and I want to be able to work the entire report as I go through it page by page.

Thanks

Margaret
