Hi Nan,
I too am a newbie Legacy user and had the same issue. I resolved it by going to
Tools > Customize.

The steps were:

        * Select 3. Format Data.
        * Option 3.3 Letter Case of Surnames: select Initial Caps and click
apply

        * Option 3.4 Displaying Surnames: check the second box Show SURNAMES in
upper case.
        * Save

If I recall correctly, when I saved the system asked if I wanted to convert my
typed surnames to the selected format and I said yes.

Now no red exclamation dots. So now, even though the surname is in Initial Cap
on the Individual screen, name is displayed in all CAPS in the family view and
the reports are also in all CAPS.

Hope this helps.

Hi Nan,
Welcome.
It takes a while to learn all the options in Legacy. One way to learn is to
read each screen and pop-up carefully.
When you hover over a PP alert, you are told 3 different actions you can take.
The last - hold shift and right click takes you to the criteria used for the
Potential Problems. Make the change there for the Surnames and all the PP
alerts to do with all capital surnames will go away. (It's the last option on
the Standardisation Tab)

There's often more than one way to the same place.
In this case there are two other ways.
>From the Tools Ribbon - Potential Problems
and from the Reports Ribbon - Other Reports - Potential Problems.

Enjoy,
Cathy
