Jane,
Are you talking about this...

Thomas Simmons (William, James, James, Silas, James) with superscript numbers
after each generation?

This is something specific to descendant reports. You don't see this in
ancestor reports. I double checked Numbering Your Genealogy: Basic Systems,
Complex Families and International Kin by Curran, Cran and Wray which is
considered the standard for numbering genealogical reports. Sosa-Stradonitz
reports (ancestor or Ahnentafel reports) do not include the lineage or
generational numbers after the entry person (page 14)

Subject: [LegacyUG] Identifying lines on reports

I have seen reports that, after each direct ancestor's name, gives in
parenthesis their line - names for father, grandfather, ggrandfather, etc.,
back to the first of the name. Is there a way to do that on an an a Legacy
Ancestor Book report?

I did a book for my granddaughter and she has a problem, when getting back 8 or
10 generations, in knowing how the people relate to her parents (which side of
the family they are on. The report gives the generation name - 8th great
grandparents, etc., but she can't tell which side of her family they belong to.
