Good positive suggestions Larry I do not need these special characters, but I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone with, let say, Polish ancestors. Right now this person cannot properly register the name of its ancestors with the characters available.
I am sure, like you, that the list of available characters could be expanded Georges -------Message original------- De : Larry Lee Date : 02/08/15 12:09:17 A : [email protected] Sujet : Re: Réf. : RE: Réf. : Re: [LegacyUG] Alphabet Character set Hello all, Based upon this thread I have submitted an enhancement suggestion to allow a user to select the special characters from any of the Microsoft supported language character maps. I am not very knowledgeable in this area but from my research it appears there would be a way to 1) select the desired language then the appropriate character from that language's character map, 2) these characters could populate the Special Characters Ribbon to be used in the notes. This seems like it should be doable, but I don't know if that could be programmed to work in Legacy. I hope it can. I also suggested the ribbon be expanded from 8 to 16 characters. With ALL of the different languages in today’s world there is NO program that can handle this. You will see that some programs have different languages but NOT all of them. There just is not enough of a market to cover ALL of them. Do not get me started on the Far East languages, let alone the Middle East languages. If Millennia wants Legacy to be international, they have no choices but make all the international characters available. It is a must. I hope that Millennia will put all the other projects aside and make this long due option their ONLY priority. Otherwise the so call international character of Legacy is a false pretense. It enables you to use all the special characters available in Microsoft Word in the same way as Word does. I have recently downloaded RootsMagic to try out its other capabilities and functions. Special characters are a high priority for me so I am very seriously considering changing from Legacy to RootsMagic. I simply do not understand why you cannot bring up the full set of special characters in Legacy but you can in Word and RootsMagic. Legacy appears to have no interest whatsoever in addressing this. This does include quite a few letters with diacritics but some of the Polish characters are not included, like the L with the slash through it. What I an looking for is an alphabet set that includes some of the European characters that have accent marks over consonants such as "n", "s", and the slash mark through "l" as in Polish.
