| Hi Donna, One way to achieve your aim. 1) Install Legacy 8 opting to open the Sample file (I think you've already done this bit as you've accessed the Media Relinker) 2) In Legacy 7 choose File - Save Family File as - and in the screen that opens navigate to Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data and rename the file to something distinctive - like Test 8 3) Open Legacy 8 4) File - Open - Test 8 (you may have to navigate to Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data depending on what you've been doing.) You'll be asked whether you want to convert the file. Say Yes. 5) for the media - if it's already all in one folder OR in sub-folders under one folder - go to Options Customise 6.2 and choose that folder (or the top folder) as the default for your Test 8 file. That might be enough. If not, use the Media Relinker. You could opt to just open your Legacy 7 file in Legacy 8 and in the process opt to have it copied to the default folder Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data and then converted. The only way you'd lose your Legacy 7 file is if you open it in Legacy 8 and opt to convert it AND leave it where it is. Re safe backup. All digital media can fail - which is why a backup on your computer's hard drive is only useful for some purposes. The small USB thumb drives/flash drives are great for temporary storage or transferring files from one computer to another. I've only had one fail but I've lost a couple. External hard drives are useful. To be safe use more than one media type, more than one physical drive. Cloud storage is probably the safest as the cloud storage providers have layers of their own backup. I use Dropbox. Dropbox puts a folder on your computer which you use like any other folder (apart from moving it around unless you use their move option) and that whole folder and sub-folders syncs with the Cloud. I backup my Legacy file straight to Dropbox. My attached media is also in Dropbox. You may already have Google Drive or Microsoft's One Drive. For some reason I find Dropbox easier. I also periodically backup all my data to an external hard drive. Cathy
