Rule 1 for genealogists – you can’t believe anything you read on a document be 
it a census or certificate, keep in mind that no proof was ever required that 
they were stating the truth.
Test each piece of information as you find it,  spelling of names, ages, places 
of birth and even birth dates can be deliberately falsified or just never known 
at all.
I think I have at least one example of every one I have stated, and they all 
appear to have been fine upright citizens!

The old rule of trying to find 3 pieces of evidence for each event holds good 
for me, as that way you may end up with 2 the same.
