Thanks Cathy. However, Sandy was asking whether Legacy has a single window that
offered the same access to sources and all attached citations as does FTM
without having to go to another location. She wrote:

“In Family Tree Maker under sources when you click on a Source in it's version
of a master source list, one has the ability to display a list of the citation
details for all attachments to that master source.”

Of the six genealogy software I have licensed and installed (I worked in the
software industry before retiring), only FTM has that particular design.

Now, if you want to talk about To Do / research, what FTM offers is a joke.
That software’s system is similar to a Post It Note pasted to your monitor as a
reminder to take an action, with no place for recording or tracking results.
With To Do / research Legacy has an excellent system.

What I am saying is that FTM’s Source tab offers, in one single location, total
access to source and all attached citations to each source, all in one location
without having to take other separate actions. Each genealogy software has its
positive and negative features.

Sandy,
Denise has given you great information but one bit is incorrect and one bit
missing.

Denise says: editing seems to be limited to visiting an individual record and
working with the Assigned Sources dialog listing.

This isn't right. Although Legacy doesn't have the ability that FTM has where
editing the citation edits it for everyone, there is a Search and Replace
feature which is very powerful. See the Search Ribbon - Search and Replace. You
have to choose the field where you want to make the change AND how you want the
search to be done AND how you want the change made. I use it to change Source
Detail and Source Detail Text when I note a typo or another look at the image
now I'm better at reading scripts enables me to correct or  complete my
transcription. You can see exactly how the change will look before you click
Replace.
I only click Replace All when I'm really confident I've got the search and
replace criteria right. For peace of mind you also need a current backup.

Missing from Denise's reply is the Source Citation Report. This can be run for
a tagged Master Source and depending on the options you choose,  gives all
citations and tells you who they're connected to and where. You can access it
from Reports - Other Reports OR from the Master Source list - Options - Print.

Note the tag column in the Master Source list.

5andy,

Â

In FTM, from the Sources tab you have three panes of information – (from left
to right)

  * Source Groups – lists all named sources

* Source Citations – identifies the number of citations that use that source,
lists the detail of each citation, and in the bottom box of that pane are three
tabs (Links, Notes, and Media) for a selected source citation.

* Source Citation Information – gives the source title (same as the first
option on the Sources Citation but easer to edit), repository, citation detail,
citation text, web address, and reference note.

Â

Legacy does not have an equivalent, single window, that provides all the
information in one location. Instead, for the source information you need to
open the Master Source List. As for citations, editing seems to be limited to
visiting an individual record and working with the Assigned Sources dialog
listing.

Â

On the left of the Master Source List dialog is a list of all source names,
with four tabs below (Output, Text/Comments, Repository, and Media) that
display read-only information for a source selected from the list.

Â

At right top of the Master Source List is several buttons, including Edit and
Show List. Show List identifies the individuals using that source. No
information about the exact citation however. Edit opens the Master Source
Definition dialog with five tabs (Source Info, Text of Source, Comments,
Repository, and Media) for the selected source.

Thanks for your reply.  I seen where I could perform that tasks to see
which individuals used that source; but, That is not the details of the source
as shown in FTM.
