Thanks for this explanation and also to CE for letting me know that with 7.5 you don't have to store your media in the Legacy image folder. Now I think of it my problem with disappearing images in the program tree were probably because in tidying up folders I had moved them to another place rather than that they were not in Legacy. I will experiment with this but 8 does seem to make it a bit easier.

So what you can do in Legacy 8, Barbara, is choose an image from your (Desktop\ImageFolder\Image) and link it, say, to your grandmother and Legacy will ask if you want it to copy the image to (Legacy\ImageFolder) and link to it there and you can say yes (obviously). At the same time Legacy will ask if that's what you want to do with other images during your current Legacy session and if you say yes it will automatically copy and link any other images you add for the rest of the session.

Make sense??

Linking is not a problem with Legacy 7.5. I still use Legacy 7.5,
and all my media are in various folders on my NAS (Network
Attached Storage) drive. There is no problem whatsoever having
Legacy link to any folders on that drive. I also have my Legacy
backups, all gedcoms, et alia stored in a folder on that drive.
Legacy itself must reside in a Legacy folder on my C:\\ drive, but
    that's all.

Thanks. That does seem something that I could benefit from as I
spend a lot of time on as currently I have my media in a folder on
my desktop and another one in Legacy which the tree program links
to. So are you saying it would get used to linking to the folder
    on my desktop?

        Barbara,

the media handling in Legacy 8 is far superior to Legacy 7.5
with the Media Relinker, Media Gatherer, code for the top
folder of media if desired that aids transferring from one
computer to another, reminder when you are linking something
that isn't in your media folders and the ability to copy to a
different folder and link from there, ...

            Hi Martha
No real reason not to upgrade to 8 but when I (admittedly
            quickly)
looked at what it would do over 7.5 they seemed to be
            things I wasn't
interested in like interface with family search.org
            <http://search.org>, putting your tree
up on Ancestry were 2 I remember. I find for my purposes
            that there
are way too many options already in 7.5 De Luxe. The only
            bug I have
with this version is that when the system is searching for
            a misplaced
me dia file it almost always stops part way through the
            search but it
does usually finish in the end so not such a big deal. I
            could be
convinced to upgrade to 8 but my thoughts at the moment
            are "better
            the devil you know".
