I wouldn't link until he was proven. The only way to show "unproven" would be to use a tag for unproven individuals. Make sure that you create a To-Do item to remind you to search.
You could create an event for "Unproven" and in the Description field, type in "father" or whatever's not proven. Or you could make different "Unproven" events.
