My page formatting is as follows for my book:
Top:  0.5"
Bottom:  0.5"
Left:  1.1"
Right:  0.7"

Yes you should allow a little extra on the left for the binding of the book.

I used www.lulu.com to publish and am very happy with them.

Good luck on your Publisher fonts.
