June,
Your computer and Legacy are doing precisely what you've told it to do.

It seems you haven't set in Legacy Options - Customise 6.2 to your Legacy Photographs folder in the Pictures folder. This means Legacy's tool to help you keep your media gathered together kicks in and when you go to attach a photo it asks if you want it copied to your Default Media Folder - the one at 6.2. If you haven't changed it that will be Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Media.

When asked you've been saying Yes. You should either have been saying No because you already have the photo in the folder you want it in OR you should have set 6.2 to your particular media folder.

To recover, if in File Explorer/Windows Explorer you move the media in Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Media to your Legacy Photographs folder, and let Windows tell you whether it is already there and don't move those items, then you can delete everything in Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Media and set 6.2 to your Legacy Photographs folder and everything should be linked properly. Run the Media Relinker to find out and if there are broken links follow the directions. If the process finds more than one copy, make sure you choose the one in your Legacy Photographs folder.

If you're nervous of losing stuff, make sure you have backups of these folders on an external drive before you start. You should have that backup anyway so make sure it is up to date.

In the Pictures Directory of my computer I have a folder which I named
'Legacy Photographs' and it is where I copy photos to as I find them and
then I use them in my Legacy file as they become appropriate. When I then
work on my family file and close the file it saves the photos I have entered
to a 'media file'

It has only just occurred to me that I now have 2 copies of each of the
photos and a folder that is separate from my Legacy file and from my
Pictures directory. I can I realise, go into the Legacy Photographs folder
and remove a copy from there but on thinking - what I would prefer is that I
only have one copy and that the photos actually remain in the Legacy
Photographs folder within the Pictures Directory.

Is this possible, and if it is would I just go into my media folder (within
my 'Computer') and drag and drop them from Media and back into Legacy
Photographs. If I did this how would I then relink the photos?

Or is the above not possible. Thank you

June
