Thanks Cathy. I have a related question, which, in the interests of clarity (tangential issues within a discrete question are very annoying) I will pose separately. You may have the experience to help me on that “tree pruning” question.

I've been thinking about this. There are no new methods in Legacy 9. Some lines are quite easily isolated using Entire Ancestor line or Entire Descendant line from a person only in that line, especially if you control the number of generations it looks at. However, due to multiple connections between branches that approach can be hopeless as it is in my family file. I'm in the habit of tagging the relevant lines that form the branch using the earliest ancestors and tagging Descendants only. Then I add the associated people during the export. However, an easier way is probably to set relationships to someone in that branch and then search for Individual - Relationship - equal to - Related. Tag them and then also add parents etc in the export. Cathy Ian Thomas wrote: I have a single Legacy 8 file (database) in which I maintain several trees, the smallest just 14 individuals. The largest is many times that, and has several family lines with numerous individuals. When I need to export one or other of the trees , I would select by tagging to do that, and the Tree Finder (under View on the ribbon) makes that simple enough. With a family line, it seems a more complicated and manual procedure is need to accurately tag and export. Does Legacy 9 have a simpler method or tool? Or is there a simple way that I haven’t discovered, perhaps already documented on the Millennia website? (By exporting, I mean to a new Legacy file / database - not to GEDCOM format or elsewhere) Ian Thomas Albert Park, Victoria 3206 Australia
