Ian,
Here's a far simpler solution. Add FAG to your "My Toolbar" by editing
the toolbar. Then when you click on the little down arrow on the
bottom right corner of the FAG icon the first item on the list is: "Go
to Find-a-grave memorial for current person." The search is done and the
results are shown in the corresponding new browser tab or window.

I'll check whether an issue has been added for this missing option.
However you'd still need to do two searches or a combined detailed
search while you have FaG numbers both in an Event and in the
special new box.
If you mean you can't see "Find a Grave ID" in the detailed search
drop down list of where to search, it is there.
