There's a known problem with Legacy remembering the backup path in Legacy 9.
Legacy 9 has made the backup path family file specific.
I've been able to get it to stick by using File - Backup and then it has
stuck for the backup on exit ever since. However, I backup to Dropbox.
I understand but haven't tested for myself that there are further
problems with an external drive if that drive isn't available when you
go to backup.

database itself. This gives protection against user error, but that's
about all. Forty years in the IT industry has persuaded me that
backups are meant to be on different media, so I change the paths to
an external drive every time I backup.
I'd like to not have to make the change every time, if that option exists.
