Maria,

Yes you can turn off MyHeritage hints.
Go to Options - Customise 8.13 and click the button to choose your hinting sites and uncheck MyHeritage.
Save.
You may want to save all your Options - Customise settings as User Defaults. See the Options for Default Settings button at the bottom of the screen. Note the Hints options are FamilyFile specific so you'll need to change Options - Customise 8.13 in each file you use OR use the Options for Default Settings to Reset to User Defaults on each file.

MyHeritage is not collecting the information used to find the Hints and nor are the other Hinting sites. It's as if you entered the information in a Search on their site.

I find the FindMyPast hints most useful. Without signing in to either MyHeritage or FindMyPast you get a certain amount of information from the Hints. In the case of My Heritage record matches, the information invariably for me comes from FamilySearch. However I have a FindMyPast subscription and the hints have saved me setting up my own search in particular record sets so many times.

Hi Everyone

My question is: *Can I switch off the My Heritage tick within Legacy
permanently?* I find it annoying as it is actually highlighting the
information that I have typed into my Legacy programme and if you
click on it, it is asking me to subscribe to My Heritage at a cost to
me. I have copied below the paragraph from the help index stating that
this is not so - how do I know this? What is the need for my
information to be sent to My Heritage for matches.

I was under the impression that I had purchased the Legacy programme
for myself and if I wished to keep it private that was up to me as I
had paid for it.

*MyHeritage Hints for Living People*

When Smart Matching™ and Record Matching are enabled within Legacy
Family Tree, information from small parts of your family tree are
periodically passed, 'behind the scenes' and without you having to do
anything, to a matching service on the MyHeritage website. This
information includes names, dates and places associated with
individuals and their close relatives. MyHeritage uses this data to
find extremely accurate Smart Matches and Record Matches for the
relevant individuals. *Legacy information sent to MyHeritage for
hinting is never collected, stored or used. After matching it is
discarded.* There is a privacy policy specifically guaranteeing that

*The Legacy user's data privacy is protected.*

I would be grateful for any help with this.

Cheers

Maria from NZ
