Ian,
I've mapped the majority of my locations and I haven't manually input
the coordinates once - if that's what you mean.
Otherwise are you complaining that you have to type in a location? Seems
unreasonable to me. You'd still have to type even if it were possible to
have a complete list of all world locations for the last few centuries.
The geo-database was a try at a list of current locations. To me it was
so unsuccessful I haven't installed it for years.
What the new API will facilitate is yet to be seen.
I don't understand the wish for things to be even more easily entered. I
expect to research locations. I learn heaps more than just where it is
on the map.

Bummer.
It would be useful if a better implementation was also substituted -
consistent with the way that both Bing Maps and Google Maps return the
LatLong to the user on their maps (which are different, as you would
know).
In my opinion, the current method in Legacy for manually inputting a
location is a nonsense. And if the nlocation name inpout returns a
not-found, I always end up somewhere off the coast of the USA.
I saw a post from someone on this list, in the last week or so, who
had 3 browser windows open to effectively do accurate and reproducible
locations to plug into Legacy FT.

No, it's still being worked on. It probably won't be in the next
update as there's a new beta to test some FamilySearch stuff and that
is likely to go to public release before the mapping is sorted.

Any word on when this will be fixed? I see that .189 is still the
latest version/build of Legacy.

I already often use Google Maps in Legacy, but on three screens:
One with Legacy and the second with Google Maps open.
And on the third, I've excel where I convert the usual standard
decimal coordinates to the non-standard string of numbers used in Legacy.
And then copy and paste.
Wish I could do it right in Legacy on one screen
