Frank,

It appears you’ve come up with a work-a-round to resolve your issue with your
report.

I’ve been trying to duplicate this and I can’t produce the ( - ) in an
Index report printed from the Name List. I choose Died as one of the items to
include and where no death date has been entered, nothing is printed. It is
just blank. Perhaps I’m creating and printing this report from a different
area. Mine was accessed and formatted from the Name List, choosing Print and
selecting the items I wished to be included. It is titled Index Report. Are we
both working from the same area in Legacy?

I don’t doubt you are seeing this in your report. I’m just trying to duplicate
your issue and wonder what I might be doing differently.

OK, I’ve reread your initial question and I see the field appears to be a
combined date field. Is it a birth and death field? Did you select this to
display as a combined field? I can’t find a selectable field like this so I
must be in the wrong area of Legacy or perhaps I’m just overlooking this
selection (quite likely!:-).

Mary

I haven't received an solutions to this, so the best option seems to be to open
the .pdf file in Word 2013 (or later). After it converts, do a standard
Find/Replace, then re-save to .pdf.
(By they way, there are 10 spaces between the parens and the dash.)

Subject: How to suppress blank spaces in reports

Is there a way to suppress (remove) blank spaces in reports? Specifically, I'm
printing a Name List (Index) Report, and for every listing that lacks birth and
death dates, it prints thusly:
John DOE ( - )

Is there a way to eliminate the blanks where there is no data present?

Thanks, all!
   Frank
