The problem may be with how you are opening Legacy.

Check to see where your Legacy file actually is.
If it has Temp or tmp anywhere in the path, then at least once you have opened by double clicking the fdb file inside the Legacy backup zip.
When you keep doing that you keep getting a [1] attached to the filename.

Backups are only for emergency and they are Restored using File - Restore inside of Legacy.

Use File - Save AS - to save your current file to ...\Document\Legacy Family Tree\Data\

Then set Options - Customise 1.2 to automatically open this file.

Continue to make backups as you close Legacy. That is not how Legacy Saves your data. It is a backup only. It's for emergencies.
Your data is saved immediately you click a save button as you enter data.

If this isn't the problem, I suggest you contact Support.

At the top of your screen would be the full name of your Legacy
database –can you copy it to an email post here?

(Mine is showing Legacy – [C:Users\iltho\Documents\Legacy Family
Tree\Data\Thomas (2017).fdb] )

Can you also post here the locations – Customise menu – items 6.1, 6.2 ?

(as you see the file location paths – copy, paste)

We can try to give the English vs French equivalents.

It may be helpful in solving this puzzle.

The backup files are .ZIP files, and they are named with the time and
date in the part before the “.ZIP”

(It would help a lot if it were permitted to paste screen captures here)

Also, what is your version of Windows?

*Subject:* [LegacyUG] File name problem

Hello everybody,

I seem to have a problem with Legacy 9 file names.

First of all I am working my Legacy 9 in the French language, so some
of the term I use may not totally reflect the actual English equivalent.

Here is the problem: whenever I leave Legacy and answer yes to the
offer to make a record ("enregistrer") of this genealogical file. If I
opt to "enregistrer", having already opted to "make a backup..." (the
box at the bottom left of this screen) the file name gets a [1] added
to the name file. After a few times the number of such adding makes
the file name too long for Windows to treat it.

How do I keep Legacy from adding the [1] characters? Am I doing
anything wrong?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Yours truly,

Estelle Nadeau
