No, there is no way to have the show all events unchecked by default. You only have to remove the check box once during each session though. When you remove it for one person it will be off for all the other source lists you examine during that session unless you check it.

The check box will revert to checked the next time you open Legacy. This is a deliberate design decision. The state of that check box used to carry over between sessions but too many people were calling and emailing support that they could see all the places they wanted when they were trying to add a new source to a person, or worse they would send in a problem report that they had lost most of their events because they did not see them listed on the source screen. For example if you added a new event and did not source it at the time of the add, the source list screen would not include that event in the list because the event did not have a source. That kept people from adding the event and then adding the source. It also hides the vital events Birth - Death if they have no sources.
