I find it interesting that the majority of complaints are directed towards
MyHeritage and not Ancestry, FindMyPast etc. who all use the same business
practices and who also share information we provide to them (i.e. our own
family trees).

Well I for one WANT them to share my information - that's how I have made
contact with other researchers. As a resident of Australia, I get a tad snitchy
with the US-Centric sites that are pretty much useless for the majority of
Australian research.

BUT I have had huge success with my German records on MyHeritage, and also the
huge number of smaller country newspapers (NSW, Australia) - these smaller
local newspapers have wonderful information on local people that is not
available through other resouces (TROVE / National Library Australia). I've
lost count of the number of personal articles I have for my family thanks to
MyHeritage. If you don't want to expand your own family history research, then
don't subscribe to ANY of the major subscription sites then you won't have
anything to complain about.

Oh - apart from the records and newspaper articles I have found on MyHeritage I
have had some terrific DNA matches on MyHeritage - moreso than the other
companies! One great thing with DNA Matches - you know the other people at
least have some interest in family history if they've bothered to pay for DNA
tests!

I won't apologise for being a fan of MyHeritage - and as all the major subs
companies do the same, I don't get caught out paying for something I don't want
- I read the fine print!

I may sound a little unreasonable because if not for my heritage etc, doing a
family tree would be much more difficult, however it really annoys me that we,
the members are actually providing the info which allows them to continue
running their business and for that they charge us very high fees!

Thank you for the information, I will be very careful with my dealing with
MyHeritage. I am a long time user of ancestry.com (http://ancestry.com), family
search.com (http://search.com), and findagrave.com (http://findagrave.com),
coming from rootsweb long ago. I have noticed a few times MyHeritage has sent
things for me to fill in on my lineage on their site, I have answered yes, this
is my family but I knew the records were indeed mine from other sites, I will
be very careful to watch and make sure they are not charging me for my own
records.
