Hi Michele, If, by media, you mean the likes of pictures, census entries, BMD certificates, etc. then, yes, I have a boatload of them. I have 9 files and each one of them is a stand-alone file. There is only 1 file that I am actively working on right now, however. So I guess the best way of doing this would be to send 2-3 files at a time (after I back them up, of course)? Thanks for your reply. Dorothy Dorothy, If you have any media in your file I will have to convert your file for you. All you need to do is create a backup of your file and then email it to me using the free WeTransfer service https://www.wetransfer.com/ You can send it to supp...@legacyfamilytree.com and put Attn: Michele so that it gets put in my box. I will be back at work on Monday morning. The older versions of FTM embedded media and you can't transfer the media via a gedcom. All of the contemporary programs link to media including FTM. What I will do is convert your FTM 2005 file to FTM 2014 which will pull the media out and link to it. I will then because to gedcom your file and import it into Legacy without losing your media. If you don't have any media in your file you can totally ignore everything I just said. FTM 2005 creates great gedcoms (better than the newer versions). You can export your file as a gedcom and then import it into Legacy. I presently using Family Tree Maker 2005 (a fairly old one). However, Family Tree Maker (FTW) is now in the hands of McKiev since the demise of Genealogy.com, (they have been gobbled up by Ancestry.com and I am not a member of Ancestry). There were a number of things I could do in FTW software like saving reports to desktop other than to My Documents, exporting a file to .pdf - things I am unable to do now. As a result, I am thinking very seriously of changing software for my family genealogy. I have a huge concern, however. I have spent the better part of 17 years accumulating information on my families and I don't want to lose any of this information. Some of my files are huge. So here is my question: Is there a way I can transfer all my files to Legacy? Has anybody on the list ever done this? I am scared to death to lose any of this information. I would be grateful for any information and guidance readers can give me, Dorothy -- LegacyUserGroup mailing list LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com To manage your subscription and unsubscribe http://legacyusers.com/mailman/listinfo/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com Archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ -- LegacyUserGroup mailing list LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com To manage your subscription and unsubscribe http://legacyusers.com/mailman/listinfo/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com Archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ -- LegacyUserGroup mailing list LegacyUserGroup@legacyusers.com To manage your subscription and unsubscribe http://legacyusers.com/mailman/listinfo/legacyusergroup_legacyusers.com Archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/
