One way to remove the unwanted parts from RTF is to open in Microsoft Word, 
then Save as plain text. It may be quicker than deleting all the formatting 
code.  Then open the saved file in Notepad to copy/paste into Legacy FT if 
plain text is what you want there.

You have opened a rich text format file and copying the file included all the 
rtf mark up language.  I would have to experiment to see how to copy only the 
desired text.
