In computer terms Null is an empty field (as opposed to a field which may be filled with space characters so it looks empty). If Check Repair was fixing Nulls it was making corrections to record with fields which were empty. Since you mention parent - child this may be parent-child relationships. This is strictly a housekeeping process and should not affect your data.

Check repair also compacts your file by removing space taken up by deleted records (possibly those null records) so you should expect your file to shrink after a check repair.

can someone explain "nulls" to me?

I have a large database and within it is my family tree so not all are connected to it

In the past I have simply added, linked or merged folks as needed then exported my line into a new Legacy file.

The last time I did this and then ran a Check/Repair I got a large log and the message "fixing all nulls" or such

From the log it looked like it had some to do with a child and parent but no further explanation.

Since this had never happened before in all the years of the same procedure, I wonder what's up.

I do this nearly every month and the previous version or file was about 27,000 KB larger despite the latest file containing 186 more individuals and their data.

I am worried something may not be right.

Can anyone explain or expound?

    Carl,

Check that the son doesn't have two sets of parents in Legacy. One
    pair may be blank/unknown.

I am using the FamilySearch add-on, transferring names from FS/FT to
my database. I am starting with a couple, and getting  their children
onto my computer. I notice that he has parents listed on FS, so I
transfer them over. I notice that they are greyed out when I pull up
the Legacy/FS screen that shows them. Also when I pull the parents up
on Legacy they show with their son, as they should. However, when I
pull the son to the main position, no parents are shown. If I try to
link him to his parents, the program says they are already linked
    - do
I want to link them again?

How do I get the grayed out connections to show?
