The important thing to note about the Tree Finder is that you need to
refresh it manually as it takes time to refresh so isn't refreshed
automatically. When using it in a session you are likely to want to go
back to take a look at another tree and you won't want to wait for it to
refresh.
How many separate trees you have will depend on how you use your file.
Having 198 trees in your file is not odd. I have over 300. That's partly
because I add witnesses sometimes as unlinked people when I suspect from
their name they may turn out to be relatives or particular friends. Also
I have recorded every person of a common surname in an area (a limited
one name study) in order to sort them out and help find mine. In
addition I found several lines of my family intertwined in two villages
of that area so I've done a small area study. I don't want these in
separate files. I started with them in separate files and ended up in a
mess with people in more than one file sometimes all updated and
sometimes only one updated with new information. So much easier with
them all in one file. I've been able to combine duplicates and link
others into my main tree.
Re deleting 3000 plus people who use a particular source, I'd want to be
very very sure that none of them were part of my main tree. You can do
that by tagging your main tree from the Tree Finder and then searching
to see if anyone has the tag from the show list to the source AND the
tag from tagging your main tree.
Even so I'd leave them be as they're not doing any harm. Maybe hashtag
them for a more permanent indicator.

Hi
The Tree Finder is identifying trees within your database that are
not linked to any other trees. Having 198 of them is odd - I
occasionally get an odd one, usually as a result of deleting the
individual that joined them and left someone that was linked to him
still in the database.
This does suggest that you have been removing individuals, but not
other individuals linked to them. The question, of course, is whether
that was a valid decision. If it is then it implies that the other
trees are not related to yours and can be removed The Tree Finder
allows you to tag each tree and Advanced Deleting allows you to delete
the individuals by its tag. Obviously, clear the tag you want to use
first _*and make sure that you have a backup*_.
Regarding the sources, I can follow your process and I can tag
everyone using a specific source, but I do not get "All individuals
who Use this Master Source 3735", I just get that without the number.
In any case, I would then use Advanced Deleting to remove the tagged
individuals.
HOWEVER, I WOULD NOT DO THAT without verifying that the selected
individuals can be validly removed. If not, there is a very large
chance of creating more trees in your database.
It would be better to verify that the additional trees are not
required and then remove them first. Hopefully, that will remove most
or all of the individuals using the source. If the remaining tree is
then valid, you can remove the source, but not the individuals.

Chris

Subject: [LegacyUG] Questions regarding TREE FINDER (View>Trees)
Legacy 9 and deleting all parties in database that have one specific
Source
I am trying to delete all parties and their relatives who have a
specific Source as the people identified with this source as I do not
want these people in my database (not in any way related to me). So I
went to View, Master Lists and clicked on sources, found that
specific source, and then clicked on Show List and tagged those
people. At the very top of the page listing all those people that are
tagged, it says "All individuals who Use this Master Source 3735".
DOES that mean that I will be deleting 3735 people? I won't be
deleting anyone until I get an answer from someone who definitely
knows and has maybe tried deleting in this manner.
Now, how does the TREE FINDER fit into this, or does it? BTW, it
shows that I have 198 trees and shows a count number ranging from a
low of 1 person in the tree to the highest of 9291 people, I think
that's what it means! I tried clicking on the last person in the list
(shows only a single person) and she does have the source I want to
get rid of, is also a singleton entry and shows the correct tag
number for those I tagged in the above paragraph.
