We have people that are subscribed to this list that are on dial up (yes it still exists), limited plans/metered connections. Keeping the emails in plain text and with no attachments or embedded images makes it so that they can enjoy the mailing list without taking forever for the emails to load or taking away from their limited connection. Also, computer viruses are commonly attached to image files sent via email. If you sent a message and it never appears then I might have deleted it because it got flagged. If you want to have more flexibility then I invite you to join our Facebook Group. We have members there that don't use FB for anything else so they have their privacy settings ramped up and they accept no friend requests. Works like a charm. I know that there are some of you that say you will never get on FB and that is fine.
