Thanks Pete Beatty and CE Wood - there is a bit to think about from what you
have revealed to me.

I remain ignorant of the historic changes to UK localities and their
administration over time (Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales); because a lot of
my ancestors lived in those places I should spend some time familiarizing
myself (thanks, CE).

(It is indeed the descendants of Hibbert Newton (d. 1795) + Margaret Glascott,
parents of Hibbert husband of Dorothea Gildea, where I discovered "Closlough,
Ireland" - no county shown by my source.)

Ian,
I suspect you are referring to Coslough, County Mayo. I have seen that
combination referenced in several EARLY linages and documents. I do not know
if it is referring to a village, or general area.
Hope this helps a little.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Coslough, Ireland

I know this is off-topic, but maybe someone has a short answer to help me?

I have a person born 1798, died 1817, place given as Coslough, Ireland. Some of
her relatives were in Wicklow.
Online searches find numerous lough's (= Scottish loch?) in Ireland. And a hint
that the locality Coslough is in County Louth.
Confused!
