FamilyTree is really in two parts. One is based on hard evidence, based on information that anyone can verify - like marriages, baptisms, censuses etc were one can match the people. Also on family records known personally. The other part, like all of the trees in Ancestry etc, are based in information provided by its users - that might be good, but equally it might be wrong. Ultimately, it depends on how good the resources were and how accurately were they interpreted,19th and 20th century records should provide correct information, but even with those I have found Ancestry trees which have errors in 1901 census matches. Pre-19th century you really have to make your own analysis of them. Obviously, if tracing someone well known, ennobled, royalty etc then they are probably good.

And anyone who can produce a tree going back to 300 BC, which I have seen, is basically lying.

Regards

Chris

Subject: [LegacyUG] import tree from Family search

When I import a tree from Family search I will go one level up and one level down once I have checked Census and marriage license and birth records. I import that tree. Watching one of the legacy family tree webinars, it said you go go up 100 and down 100. So I tried up 20 and down 20 on a test Legacy tree and 18 hours later and 42379 family members added. I
did a family tree view and there is only one tree,
How many have done this and can you really trust everything imported. I have douts.
Thanks Steve o
