Jon,

Yes you can use Search > Search and Replace on Event Dates to change "1940" dates to "April 1, 1940". Note the Search part will find any event that has a date in 1940 so you'll need to do them one by one to make sure you are just changing the census events.

However, although US Censuses had an official date and the information was supposed to reflect that date, it would seem mostly the data reflects the date the enumerator called. That's why it may be sensible to record that date instead of the official date. The situation is different with UK Censuses as the census was taken over a weekend and mostly written up within a week or two.

Why 1 April? The census enumerator was supposed to state what date he visited the house. That is the date you should be using.

I have a bunch of U.S. Census events with the entry date as 1940. Is there a way to change all the U.S. Census "1940" dates to "April 1, 1940"?

Maybe using a search and replace function? Not sure how to do it, if it is even possible? Any suggestions?
