Barbara,
You may not have a backup zip file if you don't use the Legacy Backup but use Save As which is only for extraordinary use - like moving your file to an external drive. It's not the way your file is Saved - your file is saved every time you click a Save button. Save As is also not the way you should be backing up your file. You use the Backup dialogue on exit or File > Backup File. You should be backing up your file every time you use it. If you aren't seeing the dialogue on exit of Legacy turn it back on at Options > Customise 12.5. You'll find it on one of the tabs after you click the button there.

A data backup zip is restored using File > Restore File.  It is named <your family filename> <date><time>.zip You should keep at least the last 10. You can practice a restore as you can give the file a new name during the restore process. If you do a practice, then delete the file after you've restored it. You don't want extra copies of your file hanging around on your computer.

If you also make media backups, that zip file includes media in the filename. You should delete all but the last couple. It is simply your Legacy media zipped together.

Your backup files should be kept off your computer on several different external drives and/or in the cloud. I save straight to a Dropbox folder and then regularly backup my Dropbox folders locally on external drives.

I have a file that brings up “Error”   I wrote to support and they told me to restore it from a backup.  Would you believe I’ve been in the program for 15 years and always so a “save as” creating a new file and haven’t done a “restore” in years.  Don’t remember how.  Can anyone help me? Is a backup just another copy of the same file? That’s how dumb I feel right now, and I use this file everyday?
