Valerie,

Yes you could tag them and then export that tag group to a new LEGACY file and then import that LEGACY file into your main file.
You don't go from Legacy to Legacy using a Gedcom.

That's great thankyou Cathy.
I will give that a go and probably make a note of those that need to be imported. Could I then create a file of only those needled and import those as a gedcom.

If you want to read through the files to see which records to keep, use Split Screen View with your new Master on the left and one of the other files on the right. I'd open both to Index View and sort Index View the same way so you can see if there are people in the right file that aren't in the left file. If there are, you can drag and drop from one file to the other - but you have to move from Index View to Family View to do that.

If you choose to import the other files into your new Master then yes you'll need to use merge and yes you'll have 1000s of records to merge. There isn't a way to set the options to cut that down much. I doubt you'll be able to use the Intellishare option as you seem to have been uploading and downloading from Ancestry - but you could try.

I have 3 copies of higginsondodds and have now decided which it the one that I will keep.

Now I want to open the one to keep and read through several other higginsonodds to see what reocrds are in the second one that are not in the one I inted=nd keeping as the new master.

When I tried this through merge I hade over 3 thousnand records to merge.

Obvioulsy I need the change the ‘ CONDITIONS OF THE MERGE “

Can I have some simple to follow steps please

AND THIS IS THE LAST TIME I  WILL ASK THIS QUESTION - grin
