The Apple format may be the same as many websites now use, invented by Google (WEBP)
Possibly of use to some, is a free program for Windows that will convert from many image file formats to others (eg, to JPG) - it is Xnconvert. XnConvert Version 1.83 - windows (Jan 16 2020) - Libformat version 7.37 Email: [email protected] URL: http://www.xnconvert.com I use it mainly for .webp to .jpg or .png It can convert one or many image files from one or numerous folders, and put the converted file into the original folder or into a common folder. This is because it uses "drag and drop" - very easy to use, but does require a little work to select the formats and folder. The simplest way from pictures on iPhone would be to copy all required from the iPhone, to a folder on Windows or to a USB that can be attached to your Windows machine - Legacy Family tree is on Windows.
