Ian,
I also only use one Legacy family file for all people of interest
whether they are linked into my main tree or not.
Updating when away from your normal computer and using another should be
no problem at all PROVIDED you travel with the latest version of your
family file AND you transfer the final version on your tablet back to
your computer before doing more work on the computer. You do have to be
using the same version of Legacy on both computers.
Since you've been customising columns in Index View did you see you can
save up to 10 sets of columns and then switch between them when
appropriate? Clicking the header row shows you the saved sets and you
can switch to another with another click.

Cathy, thanks for that. I will do it that way in future, if necessary
- it will be quite straight-forward.
However, this is what I found expedient:
I added 2 fields to my view of the data, in the "travelling" version
of Legacy; those fields appear in Index View as Added and UpDate.
(I eventually found the fields when using Customise Index View
Columns, as "Date: Added to Family File", and "Date: Modified")
I was careful with both the Tag and the RINs - no problems encountered.
Because I had only 6 extra people added or modified while away, and I
was using a tablet with Legacy v9, it was simple to locate them that
way and export, and then import into my "home" version of Legacy. If I
had hundreds of modified records I can imagine complications and
confusion.
The "home" Legacy database is now upgraded to v10, as I mentioned (and
I like v10).
Because I have a reasonably large database now, having those 2 extra
fields is useful in itself (though I don't want to have to change or
import a large number of individuals that were added/modified within a
"travelling" version of Legacy).
A side comment: I find it easier to have a single database, with
sundry "non-family" persons added there rather than in a series of
separate Legacy database files. (Some individuals purported to be
related have turned out to be not. Others - they are merely of
interest to me. )
One database, one computer is easier for me. However, most of my
ancestors 2-3 generations back are in parts of UK and Ireland, so
updating when overseas may continue to be a problem.

You need to use Search > Find > Detailed Search tab Individual >
Modified date > after > [the date you started using the other
computer] Tag the Search list on an unused tag and export to a new
Legacy file and then import just those people into your Legacy 10
database and merge. In the export and import you can choose to keep
existing RINs as much as possible though on import I'd opt to start
RINs at a much higher value than your current RINs so you can see
easily in the merge which person came from which file.
Don't forget to override privacy in export if you've used any privacy
features.

Further clarification of my previous post –
I have added to my Legacy fields display, the *Added* field and the
*Update* field - but *sorting* by these in the _Index mode_ (rather
than the _Family display mode_) will not allow sorting by the values
in those two fields.
Perhaps it would be possible in both Legacy v9 and Legacy v10, to
create a query which is ordered in those ways? I have not yet
attempted to do that.
Any ideas from others here?

Because I added a few people when away from my "main" computer used
for Legacy FT, and was using a Windows tablet with Legacy v9, I now
want to add the additions and any modifications that I may have made
to individuals with earlier RIN. There are few alterations or
additions and they don't warrant a side-by-side import - ie, can be
done in a few minutes to the v10 that I will be using.
I have now updated my "main" computer with Legacy 10 - and can't find
how to order by a "Last Updated".
Can I do that?
