No. You simply get the list sorted in RIN order instead of by name.
This has always been one of the failings of Legacy: failure to fully suport
the use of REF#s, especially in the name list. Since the REF#s are
alpha-numeric, a sort is no more difficult than that of the RINs. The field
in the name list would need to be widened slightly to accomodate a usable
REF# length -- say 10 characters. Hardly an insurmountable problem for
clever people like Dave, Ken, et.al.! 8^)
In spite of arguments to the contrary, the use of RINs as a point of
reference, especially when exchanging data between different genealogy
programs (not everyone has caught onto the advantages of Legacy!). RINs
change!!! REF#s remain constant.
In fact, a case could be made for the use of REF#s instead of the
Intellishare feature of Legacy. Simply allow the REF# field to be "locked"
so it could only be filled in/changed by the keeper of the master record, as
is now the case with Intellishare, and do the merge on the basis of the
REF#.
Maybe someday!
