Hello Ian
You are not doing wrong anything. I was facing the same problem when I came
from FTM to Legacy which I never regretted. The only way to solve this
problem is actually to do it manually. However Legacy eases this by the
options for non locations. When I imported my FTM to Legacy I used the
Gedcom 5.5 export option in FTM and found most of my event or fact fields in
the master location list. This master location list contains an options
button. Press it and go in the fly menue to options for non locations. Press
it and a radio button field appears which asks you to decide how to process
the non locations. This way normally works without problems but be careful
it sometimes erases the some of your locations also. To avoid data loss make
a backup and first untag all locations before starting the procedure. Good
luck from Germany
Bernd

Betreff: [LegacyUG] GEDCOM from FTM v5

G'day from Western Australia

I have been using Family Tree Maker v5 for a few years, I refused to upgrade
because of Broderbund's weak efforts at so called upgrades - but that's
another story.

My question is, what is the best GEDCOM format to transfer my FTM data to
Legacy? I have tried a couple of ways (eg Gedcom version, character set
etc.) but seem to get many odd things dumped into the "Master Location"
list, such as occupations, qualifications, religion etc. Am I doing
something wrong?

Thanks in advance

Ian
