A doctor has posed a question which I cannot answer: are there any programs that can indicate the actual degree of relationship between two individuals. For example: A man, F1, marries M1 and has 2 children (Ch1 and Ch2). His wife, M1, dies, he remarries (M2) and has a third child (Ch3). Ch1 marries and has a child, Ch4. Child Ch2 marries and has child Ch5. Child Ch3 marries and has child Ch6. Cildren Ch4, Ch5, Ch6 are all first cousins to each other, as they all carry 25 pct. of F1's genetic material. However, Children Ch4 and Ch5 both carry 1/4 of M1 while Ch6 has 1/4 of M2. The cousin Ch6 is a 1/2-cousin (??) to Ch4 and 5???? Most (all?) prgrams simply show the children as "cousins". The only methhod I know of for expressing this relationship accurately is a thing called the Knot System. Unfortunately is is so cumbersome as to be of little use, at least to the doctor or myself. We'd like a program that can automatically calculate degrees of consanguinity. Anyone got any help? Thanks, John To unsubscribe: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
