I am also a computer professional and I don't like WindowsME or Win2000Pro.

I would order the machine with Windows 98 and wait until the second release
of Windows XP in about a year.

If you can't get Windows 98 and have to choose between ME or 2000 Pro and
like to play games or run older programs, I would choose WIndows ME.
