If you did not get sources, probably the submitter failed to enter any or
the site strips them when the gedcom is uploaded and processed. When I
downloaded my own file from Ancestry (before their reorganization)I got all
my sources. Now I am unable to download my complete file, let alone
sources, and only in bits and pieces, 6 generations at a time in either
direction.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy Sources vs. Other Gedcoms?

I have a question that may reflect a lack of
understand about GEDCOM's more than Legacy, but we'll
see. When I find a record or groups of records on a
website that shares GEDCOMs, such as Ancesry.com, and
i download the GEDCOM and import it into Legacy, I
don't have any sources. (unless I added one on
import).

Is this because the way Legacy handles sources is
different from GEDCOM?

Is there a way in Legacy (or any other way) to find
out where the people got the information? I mean, if I
download a GEDCOM that shows a different first name
for my g-g-g-grandfather, I'd like to know where that
person got their information and compare it to mine. I
never seem to be able to find anything like this when
I download and import so I end up with a lot of
information and no idea how correct it is.

I also have this problem from a set of CDs I orderd
for familysearch.org.

Am I missing something in Legacy or in the GEDCOM? It
seems like this information is pretty useless unless
you can find out where the original researcher got the
information and it doesn't seem like adding a source
for all the information (such as I downloaded it from
Ancestry.com) really adds any information.
