OK, I will assume you set the index option ON in Legacy, then you generated
a Descendant Narrative Book as an rtf file, and then you have opened this
file in Word 2000, and you're now sitting there looking at document in Word.
(This also works if you're standing up.)

Go to the end of the file (control+end), where you will see these words:

 [ Note:  Using your word processor, generate an Index here. ]
 [ All names have been marked as index entries in this document. ]
 [ Erase these three lines. ]

If you don't see these words, then Legacy did not generate the index
entries. I don't know why.

If you do see them, then do the following:

1. Erase these three lines.
2. With your cursor sitting where the three lines once stood, click the
Insert menu, then click the the item on the insert menu that says Index and
Tables.
3. Click the Index tab on the dialog box that comes up (if the Index panel
is not already displayed).
4. Click OK.

That's it.
