Thanks Louise, for pointing this out

But I have got pictures and I don't always want to include them.
Without pictures you can fit more on a page and for some purposes, that's 
very useful.
But the usefulness is diminished when the date is so misleading - it would 
be better to replace an after or before date with a blank than put in the year.
