The safest way (but I'd do a backup anyway) is to export the file to a new
family file [File/Export to/Legacy File] and in the Export screen select
Re-number RINs and MRINs from 1. This will re-number the whole file and give
you a straight run of numbers.

Here's the warning: you will have no control over how the numbering will
run. If you generate a large web site (which will be indexed by RIN), then
do an export and re-number, you will have to regenerate the entire site
again to update it: doing small portions may or not match up with the new
numbering and can cause real link headaches doing an update.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Rin #s are too large

Hello, everyone. I apologize if this is a FAQ. I've just joined this
group. I am using Legacy 4.0 standard edition, downloading and merging
lots of gedcom files posted to the internet by other very distant
relatives, and using that information to generate a web-site of my
ancestry, using the Legacy feature that creates web-pages.

My problem is this: dozens of entries merged into my gedcom file from the
imported files generate Rin numbers in excess of 9,999,999. This is not a
problem when I simply use Legacy to view the information, but Legacy
cannot generate web-pages for these entries, resulting in a family tree
with large chunks of bad pages.

Any way to renumber these entries? Automatically, I would prefer? :)

Thanks,

Giovanni
