You've put your finger on the basic problem with the idea. The terms are not
interchangeable. Check your dictionaries folks. Union and partner are fairly
general terms. They have many meanings. Marriage is quite specific. It's a
certain type of union/partnership. There will be a paper trail - a record
with useful information at your county courthouse. To state the obvious:
words mean things. Let's be clear - don't muddy the water by being
"generic". Political correctness (gag) is the minefield we need to avoid,
not clear, correct & concise terminology. The "norm" works - let's not screw
it up.
