Thanks to you and Mark for this.  I sent Glen the basic gedcom and it opened
fine (except it didn't like my dates--probably the ones I put in angle
brackets).

Legacy 5 option to Produce file for GEDCOM 5.5 exported more fields that I
expected. Go to Customize on the GEDCOM export screen and you will see Basic
listed. Someone from the Legacy list about a year back had to use Basic to
transfer his file to an older verison of FTM (maybe 6 or 7) to print wall
charts.

The advanced fields used in the Legacy file affected opening of the default
and GED 5.5 files in FTM. A file with basic data entry was okay in the same
version of FTM with no location notes and fewer source details if I remember
correctly. FTM 7 allowed alternate names in 1999 and FTM 5 allowed alternate
events in 1998.
