Take a look at the criteria under Compare Options. [Tools >> Merge >> Find Duplicates]

I am wondering under the "Match" options what you have checked? I have checked for mine:
Compare Surnames using: Exact Spelling
Given Names for a length of: 5
Check birth dates, Day range: 180 (days)
Include blank birth dates
Birth Locations for a length of: 20

I am wondering if perhaps the check dates is not checked?

I have 2 people with [blank] forename, identical surname.
One has parents and no wife, the other has wife and no parents.
One was born 1872, died aft 1881, the other was born 1777, died
bef.1860.
Why are they being offered as duplicates??
This is only one case among thousands - Legacy seems to pay no attention
to the birth and death dates.
I guess I must be doing something wrong :-) But can't think what!
