Mary, I recommend you upgrade. I just did last week, when I got a little
money and it was a piece 'o cake. I did have problems on another machine
when I wanted to run both V4 and V5. Mostly with file associations, but the
installation itself went fine. V5 works fine for me. Thanks Millenia
Team!
I think you will really be helped by Legacy being able to handle larger
files.
That isn't going to be in Version 4, which is no longer being
changed/updated
or improved. IMO you would really benefit from an improved version of
Legacy that was better able to handle large files or files with many pix
linked in, whatever. I think it would be good if you could send the file
and the directory of linked pix to Legacy for the good folks there to
work on. As has already been pointed out you are only using approx.
70 MB of storage. But JPEGs get expanded in memory don't they?
The file format is to compress them while they are on disk, but once
in memory they are bigger I think. Plus Legacy has all the bookkeeping
to do for all those images and other things that go into your 1400 page
book. And Access IMO isn't all that efficient, at least not in comparison
with other DBMs such as Oracle or Sybase.
